‘Dinghies’ are small sailing boats that are capable of capsizing (falling over), so you will need to be prepared to get wet! Dinghy Sailing is probably the best way to learn about wind direction and how sailing works, as every movement you make with your weight and the sail has an impact on your speed and stability in the water. It is also great fun! Some dinghies are sailed single-handed (by one person) and some are double-handed (sailed by two people). In some boats, you will also be able to have an instructor on board with you. Don’t worry though, you will be given a lesson on the land first and there will be safety cover on the water with you.
We will be working through the RYA National Sailing Scheme Levels:
Level 1 – Start Sailing (gain a basic understanding of dinghy handling techniques and background knowledge)
Level 2 – Basic Skills (improved skills and a basic knowledge of sailing in practice and theory)
Level 3 – Better Sailing (this course bridges the gap between Start Sailing/Basic Skills and the Advanced Modules
Log books will be available for purchase, should you wish to record your progress. If you are unsure which level to book onto, please get in touch. We will be adding more dates throughout the year.
