So, the last couple of weeks have been a bit different for us. We have been helping support the Guernsey Education Department and the Set Sail Trust, but taking some year 6 children sailing in our Hawk20’s, while their classmates sailed in the Bristol Cutters.
In total, we managed to take 166 year 6 students out on the water for 2 hours slots! It was brilliant to be able to help so many students get to experience sailing on the open water and wonderful to be able to view the Bristol Cutters up close – they are stunning boats! We experienced a bit of everything out on the water – some groups were forced to motor, due to the lack of wind, and sunbathed and puffin spotted, while the end of this week has allowed for some brilliant faced sailing, with a bit more of an adrenalin rush!
All this work was on top of our usual week of teaching school children. In addition to the 166 Set Sail sailors, we taught another 348 students and 130 afterschool sailors. 644 children sailing in two weeks is phenomenal and a huge thank you has to go out to all our extra staff who made the weeks possible (you know who you are!). This is what the Guernsey Sailing Trust is all about!!
